A Few Thoughts On The Galaxy S7

Let’s take a moment to talk about the Galaxy S7. Samsung’s new phone. I’m not planning on making this piece longer than it should, although I’m also not promising anything.

In that respect, I’ll give you permission to bail when you feel this whole thing going south. And with that out of the way, let’s talk about the Galaxy S7

The time has come for you to make that important decision in your life. Should I get a new phone? Not just any phone, the new Galaxy phone?¬†You’re going to start seeing ads everywhere because Samsung has enough money to poke you anywhere you go. Turn your TV on and you’ll see it. Want to browse through your favorite magazine? There’s a Samsung phone staring at you.

So lets make your life easier. Lets take out all the trouble and place it in a box. You don’t need it. Take this moment to learn a little more about the S7 and hopefully you’ll choose to buy this phone eventually–of course, when the time calls for it.

You’re going to see a lot of ‘new’ being explained here but let me be clear: the only thing new is you’re buying a new phone. Facebook or Instagram will not change. At least not significantly.

It still ‘looks the same’.

Look at the Galaxy S7 and you’re looking at essentially the same phone as the S6. That’s not a bad thing. It’s good because the S6 still looks good. Look closely and you’ll see that the S6 and S7 are not framed in the exact same mold. The S7 has a slightly recessed camera bump and the back curves in subtly to sit comfortably in your hand. This is subtle and sweet. You’ll love it. It may not be noticeable at first but that’s the thing. You’ll just need to feel it–which is great.

One thing you’ll also love is the packaging. For some reason. The black, brightly labeled box of the S7 hugs the phone in place until it reaches your hand. You’ll carry home this box once you get the new S7. And the box itself carries the basic accessories that come with the phone. The charging cable, display covers, headphones etc.

All these will make it easy for you to charge and listen to music on your phone. Charging will take you up to 90mins to reach 100 percent because who has time to wait? You don’t.

Apart from everything I mentioned here, not much has changed. It’s still the same but great phone you’ve always known. If you’ve ever used a Galaxy phone in your life, you know what I’m talking about. The experience, by and large, will be the same. But that’s not all, there’s more!

It gets crazy fast

Remember that long list of words and numbers that come with the phone? Most people would call them specifications. They’ve surged, but in the most basic sense, the S7 is now more faster and capable.

You can still take amazing photos, better than ever, and share on your social media. This is happens as fast as possible. That’s because the S7 uses a new sensor that pans throughout the shot to take a quick photo. Any place you tap, the S7 instantly throws into focus. It’s great. If you’ve ever used the latest iPhones (from the 6 and 6s) you know what I mean. You’d want this when you’re taking shaky photos of your kids or if you’re out on a trip at the safari or one of those getaways.

It gets dark when you’re out there, too, but the S7 will not leave you in the dark. I should mention that most phones struggle with this. The S7 will not perform miracles, it’s still a phone. But you can easily put your worries to rest because the new sensor in the phone captures more light and takes great photos where the lighting is bad. This instils confidence when taking photos and that is something that you want in your life.

None of this matters if the phone dies quickly. By dies I mean run out of battery. The S6 didn’t have the best battery life in the world but it did hold its own. The S7 has a beefier cell which should translate to good battery life. The general idea is that if the cell gets bigger it holds more charge. In theory, this is true and you might get the best experience with the Galaxy S7. But thats not an easy call for judgement.

You’ll use it as much as you want but you’ll likely have to keep tabs on your battery.

Gaming, Photo editing?

In case you were wondering, you’ll be able to do all your photo stuff really well. The phone comes with a new processor that makes it easier to edit images fast enough. There’s more RAM to handle more tasks and you be able to browse the web with as many tabs open as possible.

Overall, the S7 is great. There’s no doubt about that. If you’re interested in buying but on the fence, I’d say go for it, there’s nothing to regret here. This is only when you’re not on a budget. If you are, you should give it more time. At the end of the year, the phone price would have dropped and you’d have gotten it at the fraction of the price. Still then, it’d be a fine piece of hardware.

Still a great choice.
